Live Guest Portraits in Pittsburgh

Recently, I had the honor of painting live guest portraits in Pittsburgh at a stunningly elegant wedding. The Allegheny County Courthouse was enchanting. I spent a beautiful evening painting, chatting with guests, meeting other vendors, and enjoying the joyful summer night. If you’ve never been, this historic landmark is breathtaking — but what made it even more magical was how the couple transformed the outdoor courtyard into an intimate, intentional celebration.

The courtyard was decorated with a timeless black and white color palette. Against that classic backdrop, guests arrived dressed in beautiful, bright colors — vibrant floral dresses, patterned ties, you name it. It made each portrait pop in such a joyful way, and I loved watching everyone’s personalities shine through. I event got to paint a dip kiss – something brand new for me!

One of the most fun dresses to paint!

Throughout the evening, laughter and conversation floated in the air while I sketched. Guests visited the table multiple times to pay me compliments and check the progress on their paintings. Every single guest loved their portrait. It’s always my favorite part — seeing people light up when they hold that painting of themselves for the first time. Check out one of my favorite reels that shows some of the reactions!

Spending Time in Pittsburgh

Being asked to create live guest portraits in Pittsburgh was a great excuse to plan a longer stay across the state. Beyond the wedding, I was lucky enough to spend some time with family while we were in the area. We celebrated Independence Day over burgers and dogs, viewing fireworks from my parents’ backyard while the baby slept through the whole show – Hah! A few local must-try spots if you’re ever in town:

  • La Bella Bean – a locally owned coffee and sandwich spot. My sisters have all worked here and it is the best!
  • Flora Park Creamery – if you’re a Penn Stater like me, you’ll be excited to know that they exclusively serve creamery ice cream
  • Coffee Tree Roasters – another delicious spot for your daily cup

Time in Pittsburgh is always well-spent. I’m looking forward to my next visit out here!
