There’s something magical about spring weddings in Lancaster County. Last month, I spent a gorgeous afternoon at The Booking House in Manheim, PA, a venue I’d been dying to paint at. I had the honor of painting live watercolor guest portraits at this rustic-yet-modern celebration, and it was a ball.
The bride and groom were young, joyful, and full of laughter—the kind of couple that makes everyone around them feel welcome. Similarly, their guests were just as delightful: beautifully dressed, excited to celebrate, and-as always-curious about the portraits. Being a live wedding painter, moments like these fill me with gratitude. I get to preserve the joy and personality of the day, while continuing to prove why art is, and continues to be, important.

The Experience
The Booking House was the perfect venue for this type of interactive entertainment. In addition to the natural light, the industrial-chic space was filled thoughtful details. I got set up in a cozy corner of the reception area, where people could watch the watercolor guest portraits come to life. One of my favorite moments was painting the bride’s father and his wife—he was just bursting with joy for his daughter, and I may or may not have teared up. Another guest repeatedly came to the table to watch the paintings come to life. The bride and groom gasped at their portrait and shared the sweetest kiss after they saw it. Art continues to prove why it so extremely special. You can check out the recap reel from the day here!
